Advanced Exploration
This series of five classes for students ages 11-18 emphasizes personal responsibility. Students create projects of their own design and grow to become independent artists. Teachers provide guidance and individualized demonstrations to help students achieve their specific goals. Warm up exercises will also enhance technical, conceptual, observation and intuitive processes. New Advanced Exploration students will first complete two preliminary projects which teach the concepts, processes and vocabulary to work productively with our instructors online and show students how to set up for projects and manage their own studio space. Students must provide their own materials. A sketchbook will be required. Our teachers are prepared to teach both two dimensional and sculpture online, but individualized demonstrations are only two dimensional at this time.
Weekly (one day per week) options are available year round and daily (week-long) options are available during school breaks.
Supplies Information
Quality art materials of good value have been specially selected for these classes because we know better supplies and tools improve the outcome of art making. Limited palettes of specific colors teach color mixing and are preferred over a palette with many colors. Our colored pencil selection provides the unique practice of layering and pressure control to blend and is preferred over softer colored pencils that mimic the practice of using soft chalk pastels to blend.
Listed below are the required supplies plus a number of choices and brands. Please allow time to acquire the needed art materials. If you purchased these supplies before or have these supplies at home, no need to purchase again.
